The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) was pleased to participate in PROCEMCO 2026, held in Cartagena, Colombia from 6–8 May 2026. As one of Latin America’s leading events for the cement and concrete industry, PROCEMCO brought together more than 1,300 participants from 25 countries to discuss sustainability, innovation, infrastructure, housing, and the future of construction in the region.
Representing CSC, Cynthia Imesch, Sustainability Manager and Coordinator, joined industry leaders, academics, policymakers, and technical experts to exchange perspectives on responsible sourcing, decarbonisation, and the growing role of sustainability certification in the construction sector.
A special highlight of this year’s event was the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Federación Iberoamericana del Hormigón Premezclado (FIHP). CSC extends its warmest congratulations to FIHP on this remarkable milestone. For five decades, FIHP has played a key role in promoting technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation throughout Latin America, helping to advance a stronger and more sustainable concrete industry. Happy 50th Anniversary, FIHP! We were also honoured to participate in the PROCEMCO and FIHP General Assemblies on 5 May 2026, where industry leaders from across the region gathered to discuss the future of the sector and opportunities for greater collaboration.
PROCEMCO also provided valuable opportunities to engage with leading international organisations and research institutions. Among the highlights were discussions with researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the National University of Colombia on low-carbon concrete, sustainability metrics, and practical pathways to accelerate decarbonisation across the built environment. These exchanges highlighted the importance of strengthening the connection between scientific research and practical implementation across the cement and concrete value chain.
CSC would like to express its sincere thanks to our colleagues Manuel Lascarro and Gustavo Beltrán for the outstanding organisation of both PROCEMCO and the FIHP meetings. Their dedication and leadership continue to make these events a reference point for the cement and concrete sector throughout Latin America.
We are also grateful to the Colombian Chamber for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) for welcoming CSC at their booth throughout the event. As organisations that share the common goal of advancing sustainability in the built environment, it was a pleasure to collaborate and engage with participants together. Special thanks go to Luis Boquerizo, Daniel Rodríguez Jaspe, Angélica María Ospina Alvarado, and María Alejandra Cardona Peña from the Colombia Green Building Council (CCGBC) for their support, collaboration, and inspiring discussions.
During the event, CSC was delighted to celebrate the achievements of companies advancing sustainability in the region. Congratulations to Holcim Colombia, represented by Richard Pérez Schulz on behalf of Martin Costanian, for receiving their CSC certificate, and to Mixto Listo Guatemala, represented by Gabriel Casasola, for their commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable construction practices.
For CSC, PROCEMCO 2026 confirmed a clear trend: sustainability is becoming an increasingly important priority across Latin America. Interest in responsible sourcing, carbon transparency, environmental product declarations, and sustainability certification continues to grow as companies seek practical solutions to meet market and regulatory expectations. This growing momentum is encouraging and demonstrates the region’s commitment to building a more sustainable future.
We thank PROCEMCO, FIHP, and all participants for an outstanding week of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation. CSC looks forward to continuing to work alongside its partners across Latin America to support the transition towards a more sustainable, resilient, and transparent cement and concrete sector.
