CSC Strengthens Its Position in Switzerland With New SGNI Recognition

Supporting Switzerland’s Transition to Responsible and Low-Carbon Concrete

The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) is pleased to announce that the Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Nachhaltige Immobilienwirtschaft (SGNI) now automatically recognises CSC certification for concrete at the levels validated by DGNB. This development further reinforces CSC’s position as the world’s leading certification system for responsibly sourced concrete, cement, and aggregates.

The Global Standard for Sustainable Concrete

CSC is regarded as the FSC of concrete: a unique, internationally applicable certification created specifically for the concrete value chain. Established in 2016 in Geneva, shortly after the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the initial version of the system was developed under the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) with the participation of NGOs and civil-society organisations, including the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Since its creation, CSC has grown into a truly global initiative. Today, more than 1,550 certificates have been issued across 26 countries, covering ready-mix plants, precast operations, cement plants, and aggregates sites. Switzerland had several CSC-certified plants in the past, and CSC is now looking forward to re-establishing and expanding its presence in Switzerland, supporting industry actors as demand grows for responsible sourcing and low-carbon materials.

International Recognition

CSC’s credibility is reflected in its broad acceptance across major global sustainability frameworks. The certification is already recognised in BREEAM, LEED, DGNB, Envision, and several national sustainability systems. This international recognition allows concrete, cement, and aggregates producers to offer a trusted sustainability value proposition to clients and project partners.

Recognition by SGNI

The recent decision by SGNI to recognise CSC certifications based on DGNB criteria further confirms CSC’s robust methodology and transparency.

CSC Platinum (Version 3.0) is recognised under the DGNB criterion ENV1.3  at the highest quality level, applicable to the DGNB Versions 2018 and 2023.

CSC Gold and Silver are recognised in the same DGNB criterion for the corresponding DGNB quality levels

Use of CSC-certified products must be documented with delivery notes indicating both the project designation and the CSC certificate number

A Renewed Momentum for Switzerland

Across Switzerland, construction stakeholders are increasingly expected to demonstrate transparency, responsible sourcing, and climate ambition. CSC certification offers a credible and globally aligned framework to support these expectations. With international recognition, a strong multi-stakeholder foundation, and now SGNI’s endorsement, CSC provides Swiss producers with a powerful tool to demonstrate leadership and respond to evolving market needs.“CSC is the global certification created specifically for the concrete sector. With more than 1,550 certificates worldwide and recognition across leading sustainability systems, CSC offers Swiss producers a trusted framework to demonstrate responsibility, transparency, and climate leadership.” — Christian Artelt, CSC’s Chair

CSC looks forward to working closely with Swiss industry partners as it re-establishes and expands certification in Switzerland, supporting the transition toward more sustainable concrete, cement, and aggregates.
