The precast concrete plant in Burbach of HERING Bau GmbH & Co. KG Systeme has been awarded CSC silver certification. HERING has been working on producing precast concrete parts sustainably for many years. As can be read on the company’s website, it all began with the introduction of the EMAS environmental management system in the 1990s. HERING has been using recycled aggregates for several years and CO2-reduced cements since 2024.
“The concrete industry is currently becoming increasingly active when it comes to sustainability,” says Dr. Magdalena Kimm, Head of Innovation and Sustainability Management at HERING. “We expect that there will be a further increase in demand for corresponding products and associated certificates and that this will not be limited to DNGB-certified buildings, for example.” In the area of precast elements, more and more activities have been observed in the past year that plants are getting certified. Dr. Kimm: “CSC certification is the established seal in the concrete industry to date. As we have been EMAS-certified since the 1990s and ECOVADIS-certified for several years, the CSC seal was an obvious choice for us.”
Despite the minimum number of points required for gold certification, which HERING clearly exceeded, it was not enough “ … as the CSC unfortunately did not recognize our sustainability report and our EMAS environmental statement, which are audited annually by an environmental auditor. ”, says Dr. Kimm. At present, the formal situation regarding the verification of sustainability reports (CSRD) in the EU and in Germany is still so unclear that HERING does not want to introduce a new system for the company this year. “We will continue to monitor the situation into next year and then add GOLD with little effort.”
As part of its sustainability activities, HERING has been producing the particularly slim, glass fiber-reinforced façade panel betoShell® for many years. Kevin Seibel, Production Manager for betoShell®, also welcomes the CSC certification: “The certification underlines our commitment to the highest safety standards and quality. It shows that we not only meet the requirements, but also create real added value for our customers.”
