Asphalt & Beton GmbH, a subsidiary of the construction technology group STRABAG, has become the first Austrian company to be awarded bronze sustainability certification from the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) for its plant in Zirl, Tyrol.
“We are constantly working to make our processes more sustainable, so we are proud to have been awarded CSC bronze certification as an important milestone in concrete production. We don’t want bronze to be the final step, however, and we intend to work together with our dedicated colleagues in Zirl in the coming years to achieve the next level of certification,” says Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG SE.
Certification also benefits the company from a financial point of view. “More and more of our clients are looking for business partners that operate on a sustainable basis, and sustainability is becoming an increasingly important criterion for contract award,” says Birtel. Certification also gives Austrian clients a real benefit, as the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNI) includes CSC-certified concrete in its sustainability assessments.
